Oncological Training and Movement Therapy OTT®
What is OTT®?
Oncological Training and Movement Therapy is a personalized training and movement therapy for cancer patients before, during and after medical treatment. It was developed at the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO) at Cologne University Hospital in collaboration with the German Sports School and has been in existence since 2012. Oncological training and exercise therapy may only be offered by certified sports and physiotherapists and sports scientists under the name OTT®.
The modular concept is directly tailored to the type of cancer, the treatment pathway and the side effects. The positive effects of exercise therapy for oncology patients have been proven by more than 700 top-quality scientific studies. Exercise therapy is strictly evidence-based and is continuously updated according to the latest scientific findings.
Benefits for oncology patients
- Suitable for patients of all cancer types, age groups and fitness levels
- Detailed anamnesis discussion and individual adaptation of the training to the type of cancer, side effects, fitness level and goals of the patient
- Improved quality of life and strengthening of mental condition
- Continuous improvement of therapy through close connection to research at the CIO at the University of Cologne
What does OTT® training look like at our facility?
The initial anamnesis interview is conducted with our experienced and specially qualified OTT® therapist. An individual training therapy plan with strength, endurance and coordination exercises is drawn up together with you. Existing training equipment (including strength machines, ergometers, cross-trainers) will be incorporated into the training therapy plan.
The aim is to carry out regular training sessions at least once or twice a week over a period of three to nine months. Adjustments to the training program and interim diagnoses are made on an ongoing basis. After successful completion of the training plan, a continuation of the training at the ZIO Winterthur, ZIO Zurich or at home will be discussed.
How much does oncology training and exercise therapy at the ZIO Winterthur or Zurich cost?
For patients of the Center for Integrative Oncology (ZIO AG), oncological training and exercise therapy is covered by basic health insurance after deduction of the deductible. Please contact the ZIO Winterthur or ZIO Zurich directly for more information.
